File Backup for Windows
Scheduled, verified backups of the folders you actually care about.
Backup software tends to arrive in two shapes: an enterprise product that wants to image the whole disk, or a sync client that quietly propagates your mistakes to the cloud within seconds. Neither is what you want when the thing you are protecting is a folder of work you cannot recreate.
This app does the narrow version well. You pick the folders, you pick the schedule, and it copies them somewhere safe — then reads the copy back to prove the copy is good. When it cannot do that, it tells you, rather than failing quietly the way backup software so often does.
What it does
- Verified copies
- Every file is hashed after it is written and compared against the source. A backup that did not verify is reported as a failure, not a success.
- Versioned history
- Previous versions are kept for as long as you choose, so a file you corrupted on Tuesday can come back as it was on Monday.
- Runs on a schedule
- Hourly, daily or weekly, in the background, whether or not anyone is signed in.
- Open destinations
- Write to an external drive, a NAS, or any mapped network path. The backup is ordinary files in ordinary folders — readable without this app installed.
- Honest reporting
- A clear log of what ran, what changed and what failed, with an optional email when a scheduled run does not complete.
What you need to run it
- Windows 10 (build 19045) or Windows 11
- Roughly 80 MB of disk space, plus room for the backups themselves
