Installing the Trade Journal

The Trade Journal is a NinjaTrader 8 add-on, so it installs from inside NinjaTrader rather than with an installer. It takes about two minutes and one restart.

If you have installed a source copy of the Trade Journal before, delete Documents\NinjaTrader 8\bin\Custom\AddOns\TradeJournal and recompile (NinjaScript Editor, F5) first, or NinjaTrader reports duplicate definitions. Your journal data is in a different folder and is not affected.

  1. Step 1

    Download the add-on

    Save the zip somewhere you can find it, such as Downloads. Do not unzip it: NinjaTrader imports the zip itself.

  2. Step 2

    Tools → Import → NinjaScript Add-On…

    In the Control Center, click the wrench (Tools), then Import, then NinjaScript Add-On….

  3. Step 3

    Choose the zip and click Open

    Pick TradeJournal-1.0.0-Commercial.zip from where you saved it.

  4. Step 4

    Authorize the add-on: Yes

    NinjaTrader warns that the archive contains add-ons that run automatically, and asks whether to authorize them. Click Yes.

  5. Step 5

    Let NinjaTrader compile it: Yes

    It names the new add-on, TradeJournalAddOn, and asks to compile it. Click Yes.

  6. Step 6

    Restart NinjaTrader

    Click OK, then close NinjaTrader and open it again. The add-on loads on the restart.

  7. Step 7

    Open it: New → Trade Journal

    In the Control Center, click New, then Trade Journal at the bottom of the menu.

  8. Step 8

    Your 7-day trial starts

    Everything works for seven days, and it journals your trades from now on whether or not the window is open. When you buy, choose Enter licence in the Trade Journal and press Activate.
